No one loves intrusive advertising. Professional PR managers, of course, will not agree with this: if aggressive marketing did not work, it would have stopped using it for a long time. But when a familiar slogan is coming from the desired iron for the hundredth time, it is difficult not to start experiencing irritation. Advertising RAID: Shadow Legends It has long become a meme: it is difficult to find a game video blogger who at least once advertised this product. Handleys and flyers with an audience is more modest-everyone vying praises the merits of the "raid", although the players themselves do not seem to be particularly shared by their enthusiasm.
To find out which of them is right, I decided to look at Raid: Shadow Legends and check if this game is good as it is praised on YouTube. For the greater purity of the experiment, I watched a dozen videos, which were attended by the advertising integration of RAID, and highlighted the most mentioned game virtues. In order not to be unfounded, it is with these arguments that I will compare my feelings from the real game.
Gather them all – but why?
What is RAID: Shadow Legends? Originally released on mobile devices (and later ported and PC) RAID offers players to make their own team from many diverse heroes. The collected champions are waiting for a long series of step -by -step battles, and the most daring players can experience their forces in PVP or join the team clan wars. In addition to endless battles, users have to open chests with new characters, and old heroes – constantly pump in order to gain access to more and more difficult tests. Something seems to come out on paper "Pokemon" , but in the genre of dark fantasy and with armored vehicles.
The classic comparison of “expectation – reality” I will begin, perhaps, with the main chip RAID, which is mentioned literally in every advertising integration: "Hundreds of unique and worked out game champions". And, at first glance, the game is all right with this. There are already more than 400 accessible characters, heroes are divided into 16 factions and four classes, and each of them owns their own set of active abilities – in a word, the number is very impressive. The characters' models came out quite beautiful and detailed, and in starting training the champions lead the voiced dialogs among themselves, joke and react brightly to what is happening around.

But the first impression of Raid: Shadow Legends more than ever deceiving. Heroes from training are the only ones in the whole game who possesses at least some kind of character and replicas. All other characters are not just wooden idols without votes and personalities – they did not even bring them textual backgrounds.
Their external uniqueness is also false. If the rarest heroes are really often not similar to anyone, then almost all the characters are smaller with a smaller rank – repainted copies of each other. In addition, certain problems with the design are noticeable. Let it be difficult to complain about the quality of the models themselves, there are not so many heroes with a truly memorable appearance. Most of the characters look frankly secondary: the design of not just heroes, but several factions at once, seemed to be completely taken from some Warhammer or Warcraft.
From the point of view of gameplay, the champions also do not shine with uniqueness. Abilities often duplicate each other (sometimes with minimal differences, and sometimes without them), and only the class plays the real role. The horned succubus and a combat nun is felt exactly the same if they both belong, for example, to the support class.

But, perhaps, the same type of heroes is not so acute due to tactical depths, because advertising RAID: Shadow Legends promises to the player "Infinite number of ways of fighting"? A huge number of heroes and abilities really set up a player for an incredible tactical scope, but this impression is quickly dissipated. The entire gaming process RAID comes down to step-by-step battles, but fighting here is unbearably boring: the game simply has too few tools for at least some real strategy. Hundreds of active abilities in one way or another are divided into only two categories: one inflicts damage to enemies, the other strengthens the allies. Of course, almost all attacks at the same time hang negative effects on enemies, but they simply are not needed: basic cannon fodder dies faster than the effect of Debuff, but the bosses are almost always immunity to such effects.
As a result, the ratio of levels is the only thing that needs to be taken into account when drawing up your party. Proven heroes deal with enemies faster than they manage to make their move, but the weak characters will not pull out any tactical genius. But there are simply no other instruments for the player here. Tactical maneuvers, interactive objects, even ordinary consumables – nothing of the kind in the game cannot be found. In such a situation, the user remains only over time to throw the strongest accessible ability of the hero in the enemy’s most vulnerable to her until the victory in battle. And this despite the fact that there has long been in the mobile market Heroes of Might and Magic III, The Banner Saga, Xcom Or even Worms 2: ArmageDdon – In these and many other games, there are much more tactical depth, and gameplay is noticeably more diverse than in the Raid: Shadow Legends -tiled advertisements.

Feeling boredom enhances the incredible uniformity of game activities. Although advertising broadcasts about "Countless set of content and tasks" , reality is much more prosaic. PVE-component RAID: Shadow Legends is a plot mode and many optional dungeons, but both are quite depressing. The plot is divided into twelve chapters, each of which consists of seven consecutive battles. All the battles within the same chapter occur on the same location, to the same music and with the same enemies. Given the scarcity of the combat system, the gameplay is felt extremely dull even by the standards of a mobile game.

Side dungeons came out no better, but they are at least shorter: two light battles and a meeting with the boss. Such battles do not have plot justification, and the only reason to pass them is the Grind of one of the many resources. There are many of them in RAID: Shadow Legends: specific materials are needed for pumping levels and characteristics (by a separate dungeon for each!), improved objects, purchases of passive properties, chests, keys to them … It is necessary to participate in the same battles, because almost any action with heroes requires one or another resource. Those who wish to test their forces in PVP will have to be especially tight: to have at least minimal chances of victory, you will need to grin a lot. However, there is a way to ignore the dull grind.

"Play in RAID: Shadow Legends can be without donat" , – assures us advertising of the game. Technically, this is even true, because the PVE content does not give a call to the player for a long time. Even the real need to grind and improve equipment appears only closer to the middle of the plot regime, but the game itself seems to forget about it. In RAID, literally all the methods of monetization I knew: Lutboxes of many species and a separate purchase of keys for them, accelerators, combat missing, resource sets, basic and premium currency, which is spent on literally … even to simply remove the subject from the hero , the player must pay silver.

So, for example, RAID loves to throw the screen with several advertising banners in a row, begging to buy another set of objects. It is customary to turn a blind eye to all this disgrace, if we are talking about mobile phones, but Raid has little incorporated the worst that is on this platform, and also transferred all this garbage to the PC version.

The latter, by the way, is also often mentioned in advertising as a great achievement: “It's great that the game came out on PC!" True, it is difficult to divide these enthusiasm, because the RAID: Shadow Legends PC version is literally no different from the predecessor from mobile devices. And this is not only about the above store – the developers were too lazy to at least minimally adapt the product to a new platform. Management, graphics, interface and even its scale – all this remained unchanged. RAID PC version not only looks very bad, but it is also felt simply uncomfortable. Outside the battles, the game fills the player with a ton of sections and menus, but in battle he strikes excessive minimalism. So, in order to get at least some information during the battle, you have to either constantly hold the mouse key pressed, or again go into a separate submenu with the necessary statistics.
The sensations from the mobile version of the game are hardly more pleasant, even though advertising shouts about "An incredible graphics that I can’t even believe that this is a game for smartphones". The details of the characters are really very good, especially for the mobile phone. But everything else looks unexpectedly budget and sloppy. Gray and monotonous locations catch longing, but you can’t look at animations without tears: the twitched and torn movements of the characters tried to hide the effects behind the mountain, but it turned out not very well. At the same time, the technical performance of the RAID is also far from perfect. Departures and freezes, connection problems, funny visual bugs … Even the characters mentioned above are seriously lost in quality when it comes to real gameplay.
But what about the plot? Maybe the only reason to play RAID lies in the narrative, especially since advertising promises “An incredible plot according to all the canons of dark fantasy behind the author of the holder of the award of the Guild of the Paul Scriptwriters to. P. Monk "? Such a recommendation sounds encouraging, but it also turns into a deception of expectations. The entire plot RAID: Shadow Legends boils down to the voiced black and white comics without animation, which the player occasionally show during the passage of a single campaign. At the same time, the scriptwriters seem to expect that users themselves already know enough about the game world and its background: events in comics are reduced to tedious historical certificates with a bunch of names and personalities, about which the player has no idea at all. Further clarification or at least the intra-game encyclopedia is not provided here, which is why even a minimum idea of how the RAID universe is arranged is simply impossible. What exactly was the work of the floor to.P. Monk, it is not entirely clear: to follow the local plot is almost as exciting as listening to a very tedious lecture, which you are in addition to half an hour.
In addition, some questions remain to the same “canons of dark fantasy”, which are mentioned in almost every advertising integration of the game. Obviously, the authors do not quite understand what exactly the usual fantasy does dark. RAID: Shadow Legends dumps all possible cliches and trails into one boiler, without thinking about how they will work with each other and what place is prepared for them in the general picture of the world. Undead, demons, werewolves, lizards, elves, dwarves, Santa Klaus, Saracens, Vikings, firearms, Alice in Wonderland, Steampank and Religious Symbols-everything is dumped into one porridge, but there is no one from this history or some kind A serious relationship. Some pieces of Laura were clearly added at all without any attempts to tie them to a common narrative. At the same time, some emotionally charged events or cruel turns that would work on the atmosphere of the dark fentesy, there simply is no, which is why the whole game is felt soon as a soulless set of toy soldiers-and even from different sets.
The final conclusions are unlikely to be very surprised by anyone. RAID: Shadow Legends – the embodiment of all the worst, that gamers are used to thinking about mobile games. Clogged with microtransactions and created only for them, this game does not contain either artistic value, or at least some reason to play it. Even the most undemanding user will easily find several more high -quality analogues in the application store at once, and the hardcore part of the community has long found out that it was better to bypass this game.
But this is not a reason to be silent about the quality of the product: the more distorted advertising RAID: Shadow Legends pours us from the screens, the more reasons to indicate to the developers to their mistakes. Who knows: maybe in the end, the authors will hear us and send at least part of the advertising budget to improve the game itself?
